One of the best parts of our jobs at MIMC is partnering with a team of knowledgeable, rockstar practitioners who support our patients in well-rounded and holistic ways. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce the newest addition to our team, April Jones!
April is a Minnesota native who recently moved back to the Twin Cities after completing her education in Oregon. Here’s why we’re excited she’s joining MIMC to support you.
Meet April Jones
April graduated from the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon as a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine and a Master of Science in Nutrition degree. She’s originally from St. Paul, and she’s am excited to be practicing in the Twin Cities near her family. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, being in nature, cooking, practicing yoga and barre, and catching up on her latest TV series.
Now, let’s hear a little from April!
What made you want to be a Naturopathic Doctor?
My mother, who is my biggest inspiration, is a RN so from a young age I became fascinated by health and science and dreamed of becoming a doctor one day. Since one of my favorite things to learn about is nutrition, I obtained my undergraduate degree in nutrition while completing my pre-med requirements and started working as a health coach shortly after graduation.
During this time, I noticed a common theme with the clients I worked with—they wanted to work on their health but did not feel well supported by their medical providers when it came to making changes that could improve the quality of their lives and potentially lessen the severity of their disease. Naturopathic medicine had always been on my radar because of my passion for holistic health, and this experience really solidified my decision to attend naturopathic medical school.
I wanted to become the kind of doctor that not only treats disease, but also helps patients identify the root cause of their ailments and address their health from a holistic perspective.
What entices you about MIMC?
I was drawn to MIMC because of the team’s integrative and personalized approach to healthcare. The environment is warm and supportive, and I could not be more excited to be a part of this team of brilliant women!
How will you help support patients at MIMC?
I will support patients by providing guidance along their health journey. I understand how hard it can be to make health changes, especially with the overwhelming amount of information out there. I aim to help patients feel empowered to take charge of their health by identifying what will work best for them to enhance their wellbeing for the long-term.
What specialties are you excited about working on with MIMC patients?
The specialties I am most excited to work with MIMC patients on are:
- Hormonal imbalances, such as PCOS, irregular/painful menstrual cycles, and hormonal acne
- Working with couples to optimize fertility before conception
- Adrenal fatigue and burnout
- Thyroid disorders
- Dermatological concerns
- Improving gastrointestinal health
- Preventative medicine/optimizing overall health and wellness
What’s one thing any new patient should know about you?
I believe that the most important part of any treatment plan is first establishing a solid foundation of health. This looks different for each patient and changes over time, and I am so grateful to be able to support patients along this journey!
If you could recommend one thing EVERYONE should be doing, what would it be?
Prioritizing sleep! Getting enough good quality sleep each night is so important for overall health.
Coffee or tea (or something else)?
Both! I am typically a coffee in the morning, herbal tea in the afternoon kind of gal. I also love a good matcha latte.
What’s your favorite thing to do on a Saturday morning?
My favorite way to spend a Saturday morning is by sipping a hot cup of coffee while on a long walk with my husband and our dog, Kimber.
What are the first three things you do when you get home from work?
Say hi to my dog, who always greets me with one of her favorite toys, catch up with my husband and see how his day was, and then get started on dinner. The act of cooking is very meditative to me, and I love to unwind from a busy day by making dinner while listening to music or a podcast.
April joins our team officially in October 2021, but you can book with her starting now! Send us a note on our Work With Us page, or give us a call at (952) 222-7670.
